Stanford Admits 7.2% – Record Low

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Stanford received more than 32,000 applications to the Class of 2014, and admitted 2,300 students.   This year’s pool increased more than 6% from approximately 30,000 applications received for the Class of 2013.   Stanford admitted 2,427 students in 2009, including 127 applicants from the wait list.

Twenty transfer students are expected to be accepted this year, and nearly 1,000 freshman applicants were put on the wait list.

Early action (single choice) applications to the Class of 2014 rose 3.8% to 5,566 applicants, and the expected size of the incoming freshman class is around 1,700 students.

According to the Stanford Daily, “The nationwide influx is largely attributed to lower acceptance rates driving students to apply to more schools to better their odds of acceptance. Last year, Stanford was ranked the third most selective university in the nation behind Harvard and Yale, both of which also accepted seven percent of applicants last year.”
