Harvard Accepts Record Low 6.2% of Applicants to the Class of 2015

Harvard College offered admission to a record low 6.2% of the applicants to the class of 2015.  Accepted students were selected from a pool of nearly 35,000 students—more than had applied in any previous year.

 

Accepted students are a diverse group — nearly 18% are Asian-American, 11.8% are African-American, 12.1% are Latino and nearly 2% are  Native American.   Approximately 20 percent of the admitted students are foreign citizens.

 

Harvard’s financial aid budget increased to $160 million.  More than 60% of the class of 2015 were awarded financial aid, with an average need-based scholarship of more than $40,000.

 

The College did not disclose the number of students who were offered a position on Harvard’s wait list.
