Harvard College Admits 18% of Early Applicants

December 15, 2011 -- Harvard College announced that it accepted 18% of  4,231 early action applicants to the Class of 2016.  These 772 students are the first group to be admitted early since Harvard eliminated its early admission process four-years ago. “Their academic, extracurricular, and personal promise are remarkable by any standard, and it will be exciting to follow their progress over the next four years and beyond,” said Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid William R. Fitzsimmons ’67 in a statement reported in the Harvard Crimson. According to the Crimson, 2,838 applicants were deferred for consideration in the regular application pool and 546 students were rejected. Successful early applicants are not required to commit to Harvard until May 1, 2012.
