The Daily Pennsylvanian reported that Penn’s early decision acceptance rate declined by almost 1 percent, from 26.1% last year to 25.4%, as announced by Dean of Admissions Eric Furda on Friday, December 9, 2011.
Furda stated 1,148 students were accepted into the Class of 2016 through early decision, compared to 1,192 last year. He added that students admitted early decision will comprise approximately 47% of the Class of 2016 and that the average SAT score increased over 6 points from last year’s total to 2172.
The Pennsylvanian Furda explained that Princeton and Harvard universities’ early action programs this year “have had an impact” and that he expects some of the students who applied to those schools to apply to Penn in the spring.
